This is how I have been making my sweet potatoes since I can call up, and how my mother and grandmother did earlier me. The only departure is that I apply dark-brown carbohydrate instead of white. I think it gives it a more "carmelized" flavor and texture. I also omit the spices all together. I don't care for spicy sweet potatoes, just Sweet sugariness potatoes :0) Be sure to use "real" butter for this equally that is part of the fabulous end result!!!! Thanks!

My sister, Susan, is the queen of candy-coated yams. They are the favorite dish on any table! Her secrets for stove top yams: melt the butter and sugar beginning to go it thick and syrupy (merely don't fire it), then add the yams, this way you don't over cook the potatoes and get them all mushy and falling autonomously. Also make plenty sugary mixture to "cover" the yams, this way you don't have to go on turning and busting them upward and all mushy. If y'all have to, turn the yams over with a modest spoon one by one and "make certain to melt on depression" and so they "slightly" bubble. Don't let eddy vigorously, this turns the yams to mush. You lot won't perfect this dish on the offset endeavor, but if you principal it subsequently iii-iv times, you'll get the perfect candied yams and they will ALWAYS exist requested on Thanksgiving. We don't add together other flavorings, don't need to, but we exercise add marshmallows on top and stick in the oven just to brownish. Even picky kids eat em up, enjoy! was to cook ied yams. They were truly candy-coated, non mushy

Slow cooking without stirring made all the departure - cheers I finally made the perfect sweetness potatoes! I just baked the potatoes for a bit so they would not fall apart while ho-hum cooking and stay firm. As well, I simply used about ii TBS brown sugar. About five minutes before serving, I transfered them to a casserole dish and added chopped pecans and so topped with marshmallows and browned information technology in the oven. So yummy!

Im orgionaly from Texas and this has been in the family for generations. Try adding 1tblspoon of Dark-brown sugar for every iii sweetpotatoes used.. it adds a squeamish warmness to the dish.

I found this recipe looking for a new sweetness potato recipe for Thanksgiving. Now my family expects me to make this for every holiday!
01/09/2004
I saw some other reviewer say that afterwards it was done...didn't want to make once more because of the work. I had the complete opposite reaction. We liked these so much that I would definately do these over again. Don't become me incorrect, it is time consuming...just we believe they are totally worth information technology. Do be careful because they tin can burn. We found french vanilla cool whip and ate this as a dessert the next day (yum leftovers). Thanks for a bully recipe.

Delicious and piece of cake. I used nigh 2 pounds of sugariness potatoes, uncooked. Peeled and sliced them into a baking pan. I likewise used half white and half dark-brown sugar. Broiled them covered at 375 degrees for about 1 and a 1/2 hours.
11/25/2004
Fantabulous recipe! Much easier than the fashion I made them in the past. I needed a big dutch oven sized pot to cook six sugariness potatoes though. I left them in large chunks and so they wouldn't disintigrate while cooking. The add-on of vanilla is awesome but my family unit doesn't intendance for cinnamon and nutmeg in their candied sweet potatoes, so I added the zest of 1 modest orange which added a nice flavor.

Wonderful side dish! These are so much like what I enjoyed at holiday time when I was a kid in south Ga. My recommendations are: 1)Yams and sweetness potatoes are Not the aforementioned thing. Use sweet potatoes if you lot can discover them. Yet ,if simply yams are available, substitute and make this dish anyway, because although the taste is not the aforementioned, the issue is still very very skilful. 2)Fifty-fifty though this recipe is designed to create a very sweet dish, it calls for more than sugar than is necessary. I start with HALF of the sugar and ALL of the spices. As the sweet potatoes cook, I taste and add more sugar equally needed, and I usually just add a tablespoon or two. three) Make sure to turn the sweetness potatoes about every fifteen minutes, to glaze them well on both sides. Every bit they cook, they become very tender, so be careful in turning them because they volition easily fall apart. This does not affect the gustatory modality, but it does affect the presentation. This is also a good reason to cut the sweetness potatoes at least i/3" thick-- the thinner they are, the more likely they are to break. 4) Endeavour to remember to add the vanilla at the finish. I forget so often, and the dish is nevertheless very dainty, but the vanilla adds alot. I've dealt with my forgetfulness by leaving one vanilla bean out on the counter, and I'll throw it in the pan former during the terminal 10-30 minutes of cooking.

I love this recipe, but my son is diabetic and then I utilise Splenda in place of the sugar and double the spices. Some times I also add a little sugar gratis maple flavored syrup for a more traditional sense of taste I also bake it. I served information technology at our family unit Thanksgiving and everyone loved it. They also liked the fact information technology was much lower in calories.

Thank you! Thank y'all! Thank you! Finally! After years of the frustration of having watery sweetness potatoes and not being sweet enough...I come across this recipe! Now I can serve my candied yams with pride. I never thought I'd be able to brand them "candy-coated". And I never idea to cook them in an iron skillet. DUH! This is definately a keeper for me!
03/30/2006
Yummy. My husband raved about them and so much I ended up cooking another batch the twenty-four hour period afterwards. Smelled so skillful while cooking. Took longer to cook than expected-I retrieve I cut the potatoes likewise thick. Added half white-half brown sugar because I similar the flavor the chocolate-brown sugar adds.
11/28/2005
Served this on Thanksgiving. Information technology was a big hit. I substituted Splenda dark-brown sugar for one-half of the sugar. It was neat. Will definitely make this once again.
12/sixteen/2013
5 star! Didn't change a affair and the recipe didn't need information technology. Thanks Pam for the submission ~ the odor of these alone took me back to my Grandmas kitchen!
12/04/2010
Crawly!! Scaled the recipe downwards, using only 2 potatoes, simply nonetheless fabricated plenty. You really demand a big pan for this and then you tin spread the poatoes out and so they cook evenly. Cooked in almost 40 minutes. Used ane/2 white and 1/2 dark-brown sugar. Used another reviewer's suggestion and stirred the sugar into the melted butter earlier I added the potatoes; resulted in a great sauce. And don't forget the vanilla; information technology makes the dish popular.
11/28/2004
Beginning time I ever made sweet potatoes, and everyone thought they were succulent. I found, though, that at the end of my hour, the sauce was not carmelized but very liquid, and so I removed the potatoes, as they were fully cooked, and simmered the remaining liquid with the encompass removed til it carmelized and then poured information technology back over my potatoes.
12/27/2005
This was a really nice recipe. I forgot to put the vanilla in at the end and also put only 3/4 the amount of carbohydrate (half white and half brown) equally some of the previous reviews said the recipe might be too sweet. I served this to a bunch of brits that had never had Sweet Potatoes like this and it was a hitting!! Oh yes, I also cooked this in the oven in a heavy cast baking pan with foil on meridian rather than a skillet. I cooked for near 35 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. I would make this again.
eleven/17/2007
Fabled recipe! I tried this recipe for the commencement time last Thanksgiving and have used information technology e'er since!
06/28/2006
These are just similar my grandmother'due south. They are fabled. Will make again.
12/eighteen/2010
This is def ane of my favorite recipes on this site. My mother in law asked me how I fabricated it and that's the start fourth dimension in 11years that she complimented me on anything I made. I exercise use brown sugar and add pecans at the end and bake it for nearly 10 minutes.. mmm the best!
12/23/2010
Cook in a skillet? who knew? Worked millions times improve than my method I've used for years. So much easier than boiling, transferring, baking, lots of dishes later. Good too, though I forgot the vanilla at the end. Rave reviews from family!
11/29/2010
And so delicious! I made this recipe most exactly equally written. The potatoes were cooked and starting to fall apart afterwards merely thirty minutes. I transferred them to a casserole dish, topped with mini marshmallows, and broiled at 350 merely until the marshmallows were gold brown. Kids and adults alike declared them amazing. This is certainly a tasty addition to any holiday meal!
01/08/2011
For Thanksgiving my family used to past these frozen bagged candied sweet potatoes. This past year they were unable to observe them in the grocery stores then I went out on a limb and tried this recipe. PERFECT! I am now in charge of the candied sweet potatoes every year. Anybody LOVED THEM! Even my sister who doesn't similar them!
11/08/2010
These are sooooo good!! I never demand some other recipe. :)
xi/16/2011
Like to what my mom taught me - but we do it on a cookie sheet in the oven. Boil the potatoes ahead with the peels on. Let them absurd and the peels will slide right off. (If you lot don't skin them, you can get out them in the pot in the refrigerator till the next day.) Slice the peeled potatoes about 1/ii" thick. Melt 1/iv c of butter on a cookie sail in a 400 degree oven. Identify the potatoes on the sheet turning to coat with butter. Sprinkle with brown carbohydrate and whatsoever spices you want (cinammon or nutmeg). Bake for 30 min or until the edges are crisp. Fabulous the next day warmed in the microwave! And freeze really well, too.
07/xix/2010
I printed this recipe out on a whim ii Thanksgiving's agone. I'm then glad I did. I started cooking my family'south vacation meals and this seemed very easy to follow. Information technology is now a tradition to have these sweet potatoes at all major holidays. I changed nothing and followed the recipe to the exact letter. Thank you for posting. This is my favorite recipe for sweet potatoes, even the kids eat them!
12/28/2010
This was expert. Great flavour and potatoes were overnice and tender! YUM!!
12/19/2010
Wonderful.
11/03/2010
I love sugariness potatoes and l beloved how these plough out. I volition brand them once more this winter.
08/25/2010
This was perfect! I made the recipe as writen (but I added a little maple syrup) I had no leftovers!
11/25/2010
Yummy!
xi/30/2003
This recipe is Fantabulous!! I fabricated information technology for Thanksgiving this twelvemonth and everyone loved it. I cooked it in a crockpot to save space on the stove and it worked out great.
08/31/2010
This recipe was my first try at making candy-coated yams. My family loved them! My married man tried to eat the whole pan and really didn't want to share them with anyone else! Great recipe.
10/23/2010
Yummy, thanks! I used yams because that was all I could find. They were quite soft subsequently an hour, so next fourth dimension I volition reduce the cooking time if I accept to apply yams once again. The flavor was dainty and a very easy recipe. Dear it and volition be making these once again for certain!
11/27/2002
This was absolutely succulent and and then piece of cake. I've been trying different recipies for 25 years., this is the winner. I used 1 i/2 cups white sugar and one/2 cup brown sugar. My kitchen smells wonderful.
12/28/2008
This was an excellent recipe. I did not find it to be a lot of work, except for the peeling and cutting of the potatoes. I did make a few changes. I used brown instead of white sugar. I also melted the butter in the microwave and hand tossed it with the potatoes in a large bowl to brand sure they were well coated before placing them in an electric skillet and sprinkling them with the carbohydrate mixture. Once the carbohydrate and butter melted together to make the sauce(ready at 300 degrees), I turned the skillet to WARM and cooked them covered that fashion for the hr,stirring them a few times to ensure they were well coated with the sauce. Absolutely divine and held their shape and texture only fine. The sauce tin look a petty loose, but thickens upon standing. Too, you tin can accept the potatoes out of the skillet, then pour notwithstanding much or piffling of the sauce yous prefer over them. This ane will go into my recipe box!
04/05/2010
These were a huge striking at my Easter dinner terminal night I did practice as others suggested, and substituted 1c. brown carbohydrate for 1 c. of the white. Very easy to practice in my caste iron fry pan, and truly delicious!
12/03/2004
These sweet potatoes were, by far, the all-time I always had! They were extremely easy to brand and anybody loved them! My mother-in-police was even impressed! She actually suggested non having them for Thanksgiving because she said nobody always ate them...well, guess what, anybody ate mine!!! I did sub 1/iv of the saccharide with brown carbohydrate, simply other than that followed to calibration! YUM YUM YUM! Cheers!!!!!
11/29/2008
This is similar to how my mother-in-law taught me to make sweet potatoes. The outset fourth dimension I fabricated candied yams, I selected this recipe as a guide because the proportions were expressionless on to what I remembered my mother in law telling me. We do this differently past using brown sugar or a mix of dark-brown sugar and white sugar. Nosotros besides add the sugar to the melted butter at depression heat and stir to make a caramelized sauce. Be conscientious not to burn the saccharide. As well, don't remove the mixture from the heat for too long (the sugar will get hard and your sauce volition be lumpy). When the sauce has caramelized, add the potatoes. If the sauce sizzles when adding the potatoes, its too hot, reduce the heat and continue to stir. Otherwise, go along adding the potatoes and stir for a few more minutes every bit the h2o from the potatoes thins out the sauce. And then just permit the potatoes simmer in the sauce at low heat until washed. This recipe is skilful, but I think these changes get in a v star, although it is a piffling more piece of work.
xi/23/2010
I never tried this in a skillet. Surprise, surprise. This was amazingly alot easier than my method. Wonderful flavor, dandy texture and carmelization. Simply be careful of the amount of saccharide yous add together. Next time, maybe 1 1/ii cup will be plenty.
11/24/2010
Succulent!! I did use mostly light brownish sugar with about one/2 loving cup of white sugar. The taste was wonderful. I'm serving these tomorrow for Thanksgiving. The simply problem I had was that they were done a lot earlier than I expected, so they got a fiddling softer than I wanted and since I'll have to warm them tomorrow, I'm afraid they may go too mushy. Also they didn't candy like I expected, then I added a affect of cornstarch to the juice to thicken it a bit. You can't beat the taste though!
05/xviii/2002
This one is a winner everytime. My 4 twelvemonth old requests it on a regular basis. I normally end upwardly serving this as a dessert. Everyone praises this dish and say they never knew sweetness potatoes could gustatory modality and so skillful. Definitely 5 stars all the style for this dish.
11/29/2010
This recipe is smashing. Only change I made was using brown sugar instead of white. Got rave reviews at the thanksgiving dinner table.
01/05/2012
also sweet
03/23/2010
yummy....made as is... a squeamish change of pace from regular potatoes
eleven/27/2011
I made these for Thanksgiving and they turned out soft instead of candy-coated but yet absolutely delicious. I didn't take a skillet big enough for 6 lg sweet potatoes then only used iv. I besides used brown saccharide instead of white sugar. I may follow another reviewers suggestion and uncover for the last 30 minutes of cooking, in promise that some of the excess liquid will evaporate to help candy. My guests went on and on nigh how these were the best sweet potatoes they had ever tried. They couldn't have been easier to make either. Definitely a keeper.
12/02/2011
This is the first yr I fabricated these and my entire family unit declared that this MUST be fabricated every Thanksgiving & Christmas from now on. This is the only dish that people had seconds of! They are delicious. And, information technology'south wonderful that you can cook them on the stovetop since the turkey & the rolls are normally taking upwardly the oven. Wonderful recipe. Thank you!
12/03/2010
Honey, Love, LOVE!!!! The reviews are correct!!! I did get confused nearly if I needed to add water, but since the recipe didnt say to add together it, I didnt. The sugar and salt pulls the water out of the potatos and makes more than than enough sauce. I did sub part of the white sugar for brown sugar, just I didnt measure anything, thats just me. If this is your first or hundredth time making sweet potatos, try this recipe, you wont be disappointed.
01/07/2008
This is the only way to make authentic southern candied sweet potatoes. My female parent ever boiled the sweet potatoes in the skins and always overcooked them. She would and so cut them length wise and they would autumn apart. When I got older a girlfriend made them this way and I've been making them like this ever since. I omit the cinnamon and employ more butter. Most of the time I just layer the ingredients and dot with butter starting with butter on the bottom of a very heavy pan or pot. Calphalon always works for me or a heavy cast iron skillet with a lid. Make sure you turn the burn down downward real low and sentry them carefully. Sweet potatoes always brand their ain h2o and with the carbohydrate and butter you never need to add any liquid. The best recipe for sweetness potatoes or yams, always!
11/21/2011
I used this recipe and combined information technology with another; adding a petty OJ to the mix 1/ii loving cup to exist exact equally I had doubled the recipe. Then followed this other than that. Delicous
12/twenty/2011
Dear THIS RECIPE! It was my kickoff making these. I'm now to cooking and I made this about three times in a week! My friend tried it all loved it. First time i did a test batch with 2 yams and reduced to i cup of sugar kept everything else the same and information technology was so and so good! Thanks! This will be something I do very oftentimes.
12/30/2011
Amend than my Moms!
11/24/2011
An hour may be a little too long. My potatoes were falling apart at the cease.
04/08/2001
I tried this recipe for the offset fourth dimension this Thanksgiving and my family loved information technology. Information technology's piece of cake to set and it'south is admittedly the best candied sweet potato dish I've had. Thanks for sharing the recipe - it'southward in it's way to becoming a vacation tradition!!
04/16/2009
Easy recipe - Turned out perfect. I did change a few minor things. I reduced to white carbohydrate to 1 i/2 cups and added a one/2 loving cup brown sugar. I did not add together the vanilla because the gustatory modality did not seem to demand it. I cooked these in the erstwhile southern tradition by using an iron skillet. It made the presentation wait appetizing. This goes in my recipe box equally a keeper.
12/04/2009
OMG! Fabricated them for Thanksgiving and some other reviewer put them in a crockpot to save space and then that's what I did....I'g telling you they where sooooo good, I ever brought sweet potatoes in the can and I never would eat them considering the white potato did'nt taste real, I will never have to deprive myself from what I use to love. NEVER AGAIN. I added 1/2c of Brown Sugar cooked for 3hr. stirred a few time. My family loved them and everybody wanted seconds...very easy 1pot.
11/26/2010
5 stars for delicious and easy! Didn't add the vanilla because honestly, I didn't retrieve they needed it! One affair to note--other reviewers mentioned that the potatoes fell apart. If you slice them thick (recipe never specified how thick to slice), you won't accept that problem, and they'll still cook enough. YUM!
11/08/2008
This is the one dish I could never chief, but now I am THE Principal!! The only change I made was to apply 1 loving cup of brown sugar & 1 cup of white sugar. I accept made these numerous times now and they come out perfect every single time!!
01/04/2002
I made this for Christmas and everyone commented on how it was the best candied yams they have ever tasted. I was very proud. I added one more than stick of butter. Hey, it was Christmas!
01/03/2008
I substituted chocolate-brown saccharide for white. That's the only commutation I made. I don't retrieve I tin get back to the canned stuff ever again. Thank you very much for the recipe!
11/28/2009
I retrieve I'm a convert from the marshmallow and pineapple campsite. Tried this recipe because it has about i/three fewer carbs (still a ton, only improve). Used brownish saccharide. Will try to remember vanilla side by side time. I was concerned at get-go that there wasn't enough liquid, but the sweet potatoes release plenty while they cook. Mine took more than two hours. Next time I will adjust the cooking temp college to reduce the liquid equally soon as the potatoes are tender enough. This was basically like dessert. I actually skipped making the pumpkin pie I had planned. Took the advice of 1 reviewer, and added chopped pecans. Dude, amazing.
06/04/2005
This turned out pretty well. family liked it. Added 2 Tbs more of "real" butter and a used pinch of fresh basis vanilla edible bean. Was rich is flavor. This is worth giving a try.
eleven/22/2010
This recipe is very similar to the ane my mom makes. She bakes the sugariness potatoes instead of stove elevation, and nosotros use 1 cup white and i cup brown carbohydrate. Great, simple southern recipe.
11/22/2009
Just what I was looking for. Parents give me a big box of sweet potatoes in the autumn, and every year I endeavor candied sweets similar my Mom makes. This is it! Used brown sugar and added a splash of Jack Daniels. Not a nutmeg fan, so I substituted ground clove. Syrup was the perfect consistency after cooking co-ordinate to this recipe. DH & I polished off the leftovers with breakfast this morning. Thank you for the recipe!
01/02/2008
My second attempt at candy-coated sweet potatoes. The commencement fourth dimension I tried my own recipe but didnt like it. I loved this one with the changes that I fabricated to information technology, I used only 1 loving cup of granulated sugar and ane loving cup of brown carbohydrate and when it was almost finished I added 2 tablespoons of cornstartch to the sauce to thicken it up.
12/31/2011
Oo my goodness!! I dear these been making them for over a year now. I have tried so many sweet potato recipe and this is it!! Merely affair I practise dissimilar is add some marshmellows and bake till browned.. Pure love:)
04/09/2012
I first fabricated this at Thanksgiving....everyone ranted and raved how delicious it was. I followed others suggestions AND I was using freshly grated nutmeg (stronger than pre-ground). I used less than the recipe calls for. It is so EASY! And since I use smaller knife cuts on my sweet potatoes, I can get it cooked in twenty minutes. It is now a weeknight side dish & I make it everytime sweet potatoes are on sale!!!!!!!
10/13/2007
These are wonderful. I grew upwards (and however live) in the Due south and these are just as I recollect.
12/25/2007
Tin can't get wrong with butter and sugar! I used about a cup and a half of brown saccharide, and put it all in the slow cooker. Worked out well.
xi/26/2011
Flavor was skilful, but at that place was an awful lot of liquid which I ended up cooking downward. I practice remember the potatoes need to be cut very thick as they will fall apart if too thin.
01/02/2012
Fabulous sweet potatoes so easy!! Definately volition make again!
11/05/2005
The candied sweet potatoe recipes I have tried over the years called for a piddling water. They were all flops. This is the best sugariness pototoes I take ever cooked and the best tasting.I exercise half the recipe and it works but fine.
02/08/2002
I've made this a few times already...everyone loves information technology! These are not like those candied yam recipes where they are just topped with a lot of sweet stuff and marshmallows and baked. These are simmered so the flavour is tasted throughout the whole sweet white potato. Wonderful!
08/12/2012
I used to mess my yams up, not no more because of this recipe, my family unit wants yams every week.
04/26/2007
man oh man! this is some skilful stuff! I used splenda instead of sugar and smart balence instead of butter to lighten it up some and information technology tasted oh, and so good. and information technology was very easy
11/25/2011
This was a big hit at the Thanksgiving tabular array. I already had the ingredients from making a Jewish apple tree block. Saccharide, butter, cinamamon and nutmeg, that'south information technology. The cooking time carmelizes the carbohydrate and y'all would swear there is brown sugar in this recipie. I hand cut the yams into 3/4 inch slices, some in half, giving a quarter moon effect. This is delicious.
01/07/2004
I made this for the first time on Thanksgiving and even the sweet potato haters loved it....and so much in fact that I had to make it again for Christmas! And NO LEFTOVERS! I sliced the potatoes very thick and am glad I did considering the thinner ones began to autumn apart at the cease.
12/09/2009
This is a wonderful recipe and so simple too.Information technology has become a tradition on Thanksgiving in my habitation.
12/04/2009
These tasted amazing but they would non go soft on the stove top, they had cooked for 3 hours and were still stone hard, i stuck them in the oven for about 30 minutes they were perfect.
02/27/2010
Family hit! Very very skillful glad I tried it!
12/28/2010
I love candy-coated yams, simply stopped making them - I could not go them sweet (used to boil them first). I tried this recipe for Xmas and permit me say, this was the best candied yams I have ever tasted. I loved it and so much I wanted to make more than the next twenty-four hours, merely store was out of sweet potatoes. Thank you Pam, this recipe is now taped to the inside kitchen cabinet door, where I put all all my go to recipes.
12/26/2011
They were really good. I did not use equally much nutmeg as called for. I am not really a fan. Next time I think I will cutting down on the butter just a tad. Thanks for the superb formula.
12/31/2011
Loved them! Made them for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Cheers!
09/11/2011
Whole family loved this. I made it healthier by using cocunut oil instead of butter/margerine. Also used 1/two loving cup raw sugar and ane/8 cup Stevia instead of the ii cups sugar. It was plenty sweet that way!
02/19/2009
This was very tasty. The but matter I did differently was apply one/2 white sugar and i/2 brown sugar. I had some Asian yams lying around, then I used this recipe and they turned out delicious!
02/01/2012
Great stuff - cut the recipe in half though. Glad I did. Information technology made a bunch! Thank you for the recipe!!
09/28/2013
Scared me at first, did not know potatoes cooked down.virtually did not use half-dozen potatos.expert matter my mom is deceased, this would have broke her heart.I have struck gold!
04/27/2012
Very good sweet potatoes. Whenever I make sweet potatoes this is the recipe I use.
03/17/2010
Loved it. I've made this several times and each and every fourth dimension it came out good. The only thing I inverse was the nutmeg (I used i/2 teaspoon, and 1 cup of white carbohydrate and i cup of chocolate-brown sugar. Other than that this was a perfect recipe for me.
08/29/2011
This recipe was greeeeeeeeat the simply thing is information technology was a little as well loose , I would suggest instead of covering the dish let simmer uncovered the terminal 30-35 minute until done , too like some others I totally forgot the vanilla extract because I was besides busy gustation testing, but overall nifty recipe, I definitely will be making this recipe again soooooooon , I will tweek it a little , I would advise any first timers please follow recipe instructions then make changes the fashion you meet fit. cheers
11/27/2011
Ii words: besides sweetness! I made this for the offset time for Thanksgiving, and because 6 potatoes didn't fit the pan- I only put 5 or so. They turned out too soft and as well sweet, so I made steamed a couple more potatoes and added it into the dish. It tasted better this way and had some rest to it. I'll exist making this again- Information technology WAS Withal GOOD but will def cut downward on butter+ sugar.
11/xix/2009
Fantastic! Truly "candied" just similar Grandma's. This is a actually sweet dish. Not at all like the sweet potatoes you lot find baked with the marshmallows that people usually telephone call "candied yams". The candying gives them a dissimilar texture. These are the real thing, just what I take been looking for! Thanks for sharing, this is a existent treasure.
11/28/2009
pretty good, but pretty sweet, and they didn't seem to candy how I would have hoped, only that was probably me more then the recipe, I would definately try these again
12/27/2007
Very, very skillful. Exactly what I was looking for in candied sweet potatoes. Very sweetness and rich and tasty. I used the fresh sweet potatoes in the store (the orange ones) and they really cooked up well. My only recommendation is to clamper them or slice them very thick (ane/4" or thicker) because they break upwards too easily otherwise and the presentation is lost. I will DEFINITELY brand this once again!
01/02/2012
Very easy recipe and very good. I cooked mine in the oven and used one cup of brown sugar/ane cup of white carbohydrate. I as well melted the butter in a pan along with the saccharide, then poured the mixture over the yams. Don't forget to add the vanilla...this really seals the deal.
03/02/2011
I thought this turned out neat! Information technology was my first fourth dimension making candied sweet potatoes, so I was a lilliputian intimidated. I took another reviewers advice and did one cup brown sugar and one cup white. It gave it a smashing gustation. Too, this did not accept nearly as long to cook equally I expected, after nigh 30 mins, they were fix to go! I guess my advice would exist to keep checking to make certain that you don't overcook. Thanks and then much! Volition use this recipe again!

This is my new favorite candy-coated sugariness potatoes recipe! Information technology was a hitting on both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The outset time I made it, the nutmeg was very overpowering. I will be omitting it from now on, but I do suggest reducing the amount by at least half. It was hard to taste the sweet potato over it. I also used brown sugar instead of plain white carbohydrate. I did tweak the recipe a bit. In the end, I transferred the potatoes to a goulash dish and topped with mini marshmallows and finely chopped pecans, and placed in a heated oven (350 is OK, no more than 400) until the marshmallows were gooey. The kids even loved information technology, and they aren't sweet potato fans. :)

These were pretty simple to brand. Mine cooked unevenly, but I'm sure that's just melt mistake (I'm still new to cooking!). I don't know how anyone could have a pan big enough for this recipe...my biggest skillet barely held half the recipe.
